Welcome to Jakob's Webpage!

Here is a picture of a bridge in Central Park, NYC. I love bridges. I traveled to New York this summer to see the premier of Star Wars: Episode III. My friends and I really love Star Wars. The Jedi knights and the Force are similar to Chinese Martial Arts, known in Chinese as Wushu, and its concept of Qi or Chi, which means energy. I study these arts with my best friend who is also one of the teachers. We learn many different styles, one of which is the very popular style known as Taijiquan, or T'ai Ch'i Chuan. My personally favorite style is called Xingyiquan which means Form Mind Fist. It is related to Taiji in that it is an internal martial art, meaning you learn how to move from the inside out. Although it is also an internal martial art, Xingyi is much more aggressive than Taiji and is known for it's explosive nature. Here is a picture of an old master in the Xingyi posture.

For more information about Xingyiquan, visit the emptyflower website. My martial arts friend, Blake Wheeler, is also in a band with Robin Wynn a local singer/songwriter sensation who happens to be another good friend of mine. In fact, I'm friends with the whole band, including Robin's husband, Mark Goldstein, who owns and operates Sandalwood Recording Studios. I used to be room mates with Mark and Blake in the same house as the studio is in. If you haven't yet seen Robin Wynn perform, I highly recommend it. They are all talented musicians and Robin is an exceptionally good vocalist/lyricist. Their next show is at Atomic Burrito this Thursday October 27. Besides martial arts, I also enjoy reading books of all types. My favorite places to find interesting books are amazon and anathemabooks.
